The Poetry of Place: Nature Connection & Creativity
Join Safiya and Caroline for a relaxing day in nature, connecting to the land around us and seeing the ways it can inspire us creatively.
We will start the day by sharing some poetry and nature writing, and then we'll have some time to experience nature connection and writing-in-nature activities. After a break for lunch, we'll create small handmade books as mementos of the day, inspired by the nature around us at Pensychnant. No experience is required! You can choose to share anything you've written but there's no pressure to do so. All crafting materials will be provided.
Your team for the day
Safiya is a poet and an eco-therapy & and nature-based practitioner and also currently works as a Mental Health Practitioner for Young People and Adults. Caroline is an artist and an eco-therapy & and nature-based practitioner. Her background is in supporting people with mental health conditions, disabilities, and neurodiversity within educational and charitable organisations.
What to expect on the day
The event will run from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be time for you to enjoy the nature around Pensychnant, and we'll also spend time inside. While the venue is accessible, please contact us if you have concerns – we will try to accommodate your needs.
We’ll provide water, hot drinks and cake. Please bring your own lunch.
Venue
Pensychnant Conservation Centre, Sychnant Pass Rd, Conwy LL32 8BJ
Pensychnant Conservation Centre is at the top of the Sychnant Pass, about 2½ miles from Conwy or Penmaenmawr on the North Wales coast. There is free parking on site. Unfortunately there is no access by public transport due to cuts to local bus services. If you know someone else who’s coming, perhaps you can car share?
If you’re coming from Penmaenmawr along Sychnant Pass Road, you will need to take a very sharp left turn where the sign for the Centre is. Please note that this track is rutted, and you’ll need to drive with care.
What to bring
The weather in North Wales can be quite variable. For your comfort and safety, we ask you to bring the following items:
- Sturdy, comfortable footwear
- Waterproof jacket and trousers
- Warm fleece or jumper (not cotton)
- Warm hat and gloves
- Any medication that you require
- Walking poles if you want extra support on uneven ground
You’ll also need to bring:
- A notebook and pen
- Packed lunch and snacks
- Water bottle
Photos and feedback
We’d like your permission to use your photos and feedback on the day for marketing purposes, including on social media. It’s easy to refuse either while booking or on the day.
